The second of five extremely low-budget Ken Maynard Westerns produced and directed by Clifford S. Elfelt, this film starred Maynard as a New York socialite banished to Colorado after being arrested in a raid on a speakeasy. En route, Maynard loses his money to a big city huckster (Gus Saville), is briefly mistaken for a wanted criminal, and saves the heroine (Peggy Montgomery) from being abducted by said outlaw (Harry Woods, sans his trademark mustache). To generate added interest for this, Maynard's first starring series, producer Elfelt hired six former Ziegfeld Follies chorus girls and African-American buck-and-wing dancer Ananias Berry (aka James Berry, Jr.). This time, the Six Famous Beauties (or The Hollywood Beauty Sextette as the girls were variously billed) and Berry played stranded vaudevillians, but according to contemporary reviews their presence in a Western strained credibility to the limit. Along with the four other series entries ($50,000 Reward, The Grey Vulture, The Haunted Ranch, and The Demon Rider), Fighting Courage was re-edited and re-released as a 10 chapter serial, The Range Fighter, in 1929.
