Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Theatrical producer George W. Lederer began his motion picture company with this drama, adapted (naturally) from a stage play. Jane Thomas (Margaret Wycherly, who also starred in the stage version) inherits a fortune from her father, which includes ownership of a bank. She goes head to head with a political vice ring headed by Vance (John E. Kellerd). Since the town in which she lives allows women to run for office (women did not yet have the right to vote), she manages to get herself elected mayor while at the same time putting Vance and his cohorts to rout. Lederer briefly was the brother-in-law of future screen star Marion Davies, but even after he and his wife Reine Davies (née Douras) divorced, he stayed close to her family. It was Lederer -- not Marion's paramour William Randoph Hearst -- who produced the actress's first film, 1917's Runaway Romany. Lederer's son was screenwriter, theatrical producer, prankster (and occasional film director) Charles Lederer.
