Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Until the establishment of a quota system, the Czechoslovakian film industry could hardly be called prolific in the early 1930s, though what was produced made up in quality what was lacking in quantity. Fidlovacka derives its title from an annual Czech folk festival, lovingly re-created herein. Heroine Liduka (Slavska Tauberova) is in love with Mastilkova (Antoine Nedosinka), the son of the local shoemaker. But Liduka's mother has already picked out a wealthy husband for the girl, one Herr von Dudek (Cenck Siegl). Ultimately mama gives her blessing to the wedding of Liduka and Mastilkova when the prevaricating Von Dudek turns out to be a shoemaker's son himself -- and an incompetent one, at that.
