Synopsis by Mark Deming

The electric guitar is still the backbone of rock & roll music, as well as an invaluable part of the fabric of blues and country music, and this home video is designed to put beginners on the first step toward becoming guitar heroes. Keith Wyatt, an author and guitarist who's played with roots rock firebrands the Blasters, demonstrates the basic building blocks of electric guitar playing, from tuning the instrument, rudimentary chords and scales, rhythm and solo guitar patterns, and practice exercises to techniques best suited to the electric instrument, such as vibrato, string bends, and the use of effects boxes and amplifiers. Fender Presents: Getting Started on Electric Guitar also features backing tracks which allows the new guitarist to play along with a band as their skills improve.
