A nigh invisible component of gay culture weighs in on the complexities of what it means to be homosexual in rural America in writer/producer/director Tom Murray's thought provoking documentary. Murray was raised on a typical Midwestern dairy farm, the kind of place that isn't known for it's hospitality to homosexuals. In addition to reflecting on his own roots as a gay man living in such a rural environment, Murray also travels to New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Wyoming in order to speak with others who grew up under similar circumstances. The result is a film that is unapologetically honest, frequently alternating between funny and frightening as it explores the stories of the people who exist about as far away from the vanguard of gay culture as one could imagine.
