Synopsis by Mark Deming

Six African-American women face the challenge of telling the world the truth about their sexuality in this comedy-drama from writer and director Faith Trimel. Felicia (Faith Trimel) is a lesbian, but her family and many of her friends don't know it, and when her mother stops by for an unexpected visit one morning, she literally hides her girlfriend in a closet, hoping her mother won't know she's there. Not surprisingly, this leads to a bitter argument that nearly brings an end to their relationship, and Felicia decides it's time she came out of the closet. At Felicia's urging, she and five of her friends who are also secretive lesbians make a pact to all come out to the world within a month. Each of these women have their own issues to deal with; Sabrina (Tarina Pouncy) is a Christian who knows her devout family and her pastor are not likely to accept her as a lesbian. Kemp (Charyse Monet) is a professional basketball player whose career and commercial endorsements might vanish if her fans knew the truth. Melanie (Leslie Gilliam) has a child with her former lover and acknowledging her sexuality could threaten her attempts to win custody. Tonya (Fadhia Carmelle Marcelin) has pledged to marry her lover, but her sister doesn't want that to happen. Monifa (Mahogany Ratcliffe) finds the courage to tell her parents only to discover the family has a few secrets of their own. And after challenging her friends to be strong and tell the truth, Felicia isn't sure she has the nerve to do the same thing herself. Family was an official selection at the 2009 San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival.
