In this reality series, a spin-off of a well-received ABC special, three ordinary people were chosen from thousands of applicants to have their appearance altered (hopefully for the better) before an audience of millions. A team of experts -- Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Garth Fisher, dental specialist William Dorfman, lasik eye surgeon Robert Maloney, dietician/personal trainer Michael Thurmond, hair/makeup master Jose Eber, and Emmy-winning fashion consultant Brenda Cooper -- combined their high-priced talents to expedite the triple makeover. The process was painstakingly chronicled for the home viewers, with the results unveiled after six episodes. Its debut date delayed by network coverage of the Iraqi War, Extreme Makeover finally premiered on April 10, 2003.
