Synopsis by Nathan Southern
EuroArts adds to its vast catalogue of classical performances with this extraordinary two-hour concert film, one in a series of discs from that label featuring the Berlin Philharmonic. Recorded live at the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos in Lisbon, Portugal, Pierre Boulez conducts the symphony; selections include Maurice Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, Béla Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra, Sz 116, and Claude Debussy's Fêtes. The brilliant pianist Maria João Pires makes a guest appearance on the Mosteiro stage, interpreting Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor.
