Synopsis

The conclusion of a two-part chronicle of the agonizingly complex search for peace in Northern Ireland covers the period from 1992 to 2002. The first step, strangely enough, was to allow Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams (who's interviewed) into the U.S. "Normal politics was starting at last," recalls Catholic politician John Hume. But a ceasefire wouldn't follow for over a year (and would be broken). Even the 1998 Good Friday accord didn't resolve matters because the IRA wouldn't give up its guns.
