Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Love in Caucasus was the second cinematic effort of Georgian novelist-poet Nikolai Shengalaya. The film was based on Eliso (its original release title), a novel by fellow-writer Georgian A. Karbek. The story, founded on an ancient romantic legend, is set amongst the Caucasian tribes of the Tersk region. Few of the cast members were professionals, requiring Shangalaya to virtually spoon-feed his direction. As a result, the acting in the film is not quite as compelling as the spontaneous scenes of Caucasian customs and celebrations.
