Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This Argentine melodrama was released in English-speaking countries as Thunder Among the Leaves. Pursuing a theme familiar to Latin American cinema, the story concerns a worker's revolt in a slave labor camp. Director Armando Bo not only wrote the script, but also plays the leading role: critics at the time felt that he'd bitten off more than he could chew. Some of the film's rawer passages--including a violent rape scene--were severely edited before the film could be considered for American distribution. The original, uncut El trueno entre las hojas was screened at the 1957 Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
