This anime TV series was launched after the success of the El Hazard: The Magnificent World OVA and serves as an alternate retelling of the story therein, set in an alternate timeline. High-school student Makoto is engrossed in the invention that he's been working on, which he only partially understands, when a series of events, beginning with an insult from his rival, Jinnai, causes a monstrous reaction from the device. It throws Makoto and Jinnai, along with another student, Nanami, and teacher Mr. Fujiwasa into another world where a kingdom is at war with a race of giant insects and the hunt is on to find an ancient weapon called the Eye of God. What role will this group of earthlings have to play in the future of this place, and will they ever get back home?
