The old monument that Makoto Mizuhara discovers in his school is more than just a statue, it is something powerful enough to transport Makoto, two of his classmates, and one of his teachers to another world. In this alternate dimension, a warring race of giant bug creatures is terrorizing a princess, just as Makoto and his teacher, Mr. Fujisawa, arrive. They rescue her, but in the meantime, Makoto's friend Nanami arrives in the new world far away, in a desert, and her brother, Jinnai arrives right in the middle of the bug kingdom where he becomes their general! Makoto and his accomplices learn that the princess and her kingdom are hoping to fight off the bugs with the use of an ancient weapon of mythic proportions. If Makoto and his friends can obtain it, they can save the kingdom from the bugs. But Jinnai is looking for it too, and if she and her new bug army find it first, it could mean destruction for this magnificent world, and for her classmates. This comedic seven-episode OVA is the first in the El Hazard franchise and was followed by two TV series and another OVA series.
