Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith

This two-video set teaches the most important skills a successful journalist must master. The first volume reviews the five basic questions a writer should always ask while covering a story. They must determine who the story is about, which topics must be covered, when and where the events took place (or will take place), and why they unfolded (or, are expected to unfold) in a certain manner. The second video focuses on much more specific newswriting skills. These include learning how to break down the separate parts of a good news story, how feature and news stories differ, and how to write headlines. Viewers are also given tips for avoiding the most common newswriting errors. Each volume is approximately 30 minutes long.
