Modestly billing himself as "Canada's Popular Balladeer," Ed McCurdy presided over several radio and TV programs for the CBC. Two such programs ran simultaneously during the 1953-1954 season: the adult-oriented weekender The Ed McCurdy Show and the kiddie weekly Ed's Place. Both shows were essentially one and the same, with McCurdy singing, acting out stories, and telling jokes. Distinguishing Ed's Place from its grown-up counterpart was the presence of a number of silly supporting characters, including postmen, firemen, and a never-seen but always-present "shadow man." The children's series ran on various weekdays from January 6, 1953 to April 17, 1954.
