Synopsis by Alice Day

In a nation where obesity is a major problem, there are millions of adults who suffer from difficulties resulting from too little food. These starving people are not impoverished, but have underlying disturbances that keep them from eating enough to stay healthy. They die from anorexia and bulimia, often weighing no more than a child. The work of Peggy Claude-Pierre of the Montreux Counseling Center in Victoria, British Columbia, is highlighted in Eating Disorders: The Hunger Within. She has created an alternative treatment approach, and provides a warmer, more personable method of support.
