Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Filmed in Hebrew, Eastern Wind details the consequences of "diplomacy." Shlomo Tarshish portrays a Jewish landowner; Yasin Shawap an Arab laborer. Their relationship is cordial, if not overly friendly. But this may change radically: the Israeli government has announced plans to confiscate Arab land -- including Shawap's. The film is remarkable in its balance -- there are no heroes or villains, and the audience is permitted to sympathize with whomever it wishes. Eastern Wind was originally titled Hamsin.
