When the clues in the case of a missing realtor point to a vacant house that the woman may have been showing to a potential buyer, Sgt. Friday (Jack Webb) and Officer Gannon (Harry Morgan) hastily make their way to the house, only to discover the realtor's lifeless body upon arrival. Despite the fact that her boyfriend is the prime suspect, the lawmen are thrown for a loop when he easily passes a lie detector test. Discovering that numerous purchases had been made on the woman's credit card following her death, Friday and Gannon receive another hot lead when an ad placed in a real estate magazine points them toward the killer. Before long, the determined cops are out for their man and making the arrest.
