An emergency command center is quickly organized at the Los Angeles Police Department following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and as officers watch televised reports of rioting and chaos in the eastern parts of the country, they brace for the worst. Despite wild rumors concerning fearsome violence erupting in the city and a frightening bomb threat, the deserted streets of L.A. convince the policemen that the rumors are wholly unsubstantiated and things seem to remain fairly calm. As a memorial service for King commences in L.A., the force concludes that the public is more concerned with mourning the loss of a dear friend instead of wreaking havoc on the city streets.
