Synopsis by Tracie Cooper

This two-hour episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman finds Mike and Sully involved in another battle for Native American rights when they hear of the government's refusal to honor a treaty that prohibited them from hunting on the Indians' land. Incensed, Mike and Sully decide the best way to handle this is to travel to the source -- the congressional hearings in Washington. Though they are promptly booted out of the official proceedings, their plight nonetheless catches the attention of Ely Parker (Gregory Sierra), the commissioner of Indian Affairs, who invites them to a White House function. After finding an unexpected ally in Julia Grant (Kathleen Lloyd), Dr. Mike is able to testify to the commission. During her testimony, however, one of the senators recognizes Sully as a Union sniper who had at one point been hired to kill Steward's (Nicholas Pryor) business competitor -- a move so immoral, Sully deserted the army rather than going along with it. Just as the situation is looking up -- Dr. Mike even considers taking a job as a medical supervisor for various Indian reservations -- Sully is arrested for deserting the army. Though he is sentenced to death, Sully manages a harrowing escape with the help of his family, and hopes he will be exonerated when he saves President Grant (Dennis Lipscomb) from an assassination attempt.
