Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Using the euthanasia case that resulted in a Parliamentary vote in 2008 as its backdrop, director Marco Bellocchio's ensemble drama Dormant Beauty centers on a senator (Toni Servillo) pondering his impending vote on the issue while considering the position of his pro-life daughter (Alba Rohrwacher), a retired, deeply religious actress (Isabelle Huppert) whose daughter is in a deep coma, and a doctor (Pier Giorgio) whose internal conflict rages as he struggles to save a suicidal drug addict (Maya Sansa).
