Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

When the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan by the Americans in the last days of World War II, the world's collective psyche had a new image: the terrifying specter of a deadly mushroom cloud destroying the world. Cold War tactics and nuclear arms escalations brought the world to an unprecedented point of brinkmanship. This fearful state provides the backdrop for this documentary about the United Nations Conference on Disarmament in 1982. Film director Skip Blumberg and his crew recorded over 3,000 interviews in 60 countries with people of all nationalities and walks of life regarding their views on disarmament. Some of the most interesting, funny, and insightful of these interviews are presented in this documentary on living in the nuclear age.
