As a little girl, Anne (Elke Rensing) hardly saw her working parents but spent a lot of time with her grandfather, and the two were very close when he died. The girl, overcome with grief, is too shy and awkward to express her feelings, and so she reverts to keeping a doll as a constant companion, in lieu of the grandfather, and in lieu of friends. More than a decade later, Anne (Sabine von Maydell) -- a diagnosed schizophrenic -- is on a slow path to recovery when she is released from treatment and must reconsider her attachment to a grown-up doll and everything the doll might symbolize from her past.
