Synopsis by Nathan Southern
This release constitutes a theatrical production of English Baroque composer Henry Purcell's 1689 chamber opera Dido and Aeneas. With it, choreographer Sasha Waltz introduces a new and original form of musical theater christened "choreographic opera," that draws from the talents and contributions of dancers, vocalists, set designers, costume designers and musicians to create a organic, fluid and aesthetically-integrated whole onstage. The talent on hand includes costume designer Christine Birkle, lighting expert Thilo Reuther and stage designers Sasha Waltz and Thomas Schenk.
