Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This Metro production was originally shipped out under the title Destiny, or the Soul of a Woman. Deserted by her common-law husband, heroine Emily Stevens is forced to leave her child on the doorstep of a cathedral. Fifteen years pass: Stevens is now the proprietress of an underworld cabaret, while her grown son is poised to take his vows as a minister. But before dedicating himself to God, the son decides to have one last "fling" in the real world, and that's how he ends up in the dive owned by his mother. Realizing that this patron is her own son, Stevens does not let on to this discovery, not wishing to "taint" the boy. Mother and son are eventually reunited as she lies dying from pneumonia. Director Edwin Carewe could have made this maudlin story a bit more compelling had he inserted a few teary-eyed close-ups.
