Synopsis by Mark Deming

Uli M. Schüppel wrote, produced and directed this essay film which deals in part with the many different reactions that can be brought on by seemingly similar events. In Der Tag, a handful of people are asked to talk about a certain day in which someone close to them lost their life. The voices of the interview subjects blend with Cornelius Plache's impressionistic camerawork and F.M. Einheit's musical score, offering a multi-leveled interpretation of the stories being told, and each coheres into an individual portrait of the common emotions of love and anguish. Dar Tag (aka The Day) was an official selection at the 2009 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
