Prejudice against feminine passion provides the underlying theme of this unusual Chinese drama. Beijing doctor Wenwen travels to a remote mountain village beside a wild river after learning of a fellow there who possesses a potion with special healing properties. There she is welcomed by the town fathers and given lodging in the home of Yang Mei, a young widow with a small son. Yang Mei is having a small crisis involving two men who love her. Manman the boatman is young, strong and passionate. His love for her is unrestrained and he lets everyone know his feelings for her. Dr. Liu Yaoxian, who is supposed to have the potion, also loves Yang Mei, but he keeps his passion in check. Manman hates Lieu and this creates all kinds of problems for everyone involved.
