Synopsis by Nathan Southern

German director Monika Treut (Ghosted) takes the reins for this offbeat documentary that delves into the rich, complex and longstanding traditions of Taiwanese cuisine and examines the multifaceted relationship between the country's culinary history and its unique blend of varied cultures. Treut begins in Taipei, explores the perimeter of the island, and then heads inland for tantalizing stops at the Shin Yeh restaurant on top of the Taipei 101 skyscraper, famed dumpling house Din Tai Fung, Shitiing (where chef [$Ladibisse} cooks bouillabaisse inside of a tree trunk) and ultimately, Pulin's Jindou restaurant, where fusion maestro Liu Heng-hong offers edible variations of such objects as roses, paper and gourds.
