Synopsis by Nathan Southern

By any standard, American-born Carolyn Carlson certainly ranks among the most unique dance choreographers of the early 21st century. She created the unusual dance piece "Dark," which is featured in this home release; Carlson has described her role in that production as a "magician of ambiguity" whose primary goal involves transporting spectators to a nether region where death and life become one. Shot exclusively in the studio for at-home audiences, this particular version of "Dark" features a score by Joachim Kühn, played on solo piano but magnified via digital console; it also finds Carlson dancing in the production in addition to her choreographic role.
