Synopsis by Mark Deming

A young man who commits a horrible crime must come to terms with his own actions in this drama from writer and director Antonio Capuano. Ciro (Gabriele Agrio) is a gruff and irresponsible teenager who goes out with his friends one night, getting drunk and stoned and looking for trouble to ease their boredom. Ciro and his pals happen upon a teenage girl, Irene (Irene De Angelis), and harassment leads to an ugly gang rape. Ciro and his friends are brought to justice, and while serving four years in prison, Ciro begins to realize how foul and destructive his behavior was. Believing he must do more than just serve his time, Ciro begins writing letters to Irene, trying to explain himself and show his remorse for what he's done. Irene, meanwhile, has had to deal with her family's shame over the incident and lack of support as she tries to go on with her life, and in time she not only begins reading Ciro's correspondence, she starts replying to his letters. L'amore io (aka Dark Love) was an official selection at the 2010 BFI London Film Festival.
