Synopsis by Nathan Southern

Manhattan-based professional dancer Mutsuyo serves as living testament to the resilience of the human spirit. This Japanese-American lived through one of the most challenging and torturous periods imaginable during the mid-1990s, when she lost her entire family to a 1995 earthquake in Kobe, Japan. Life improved for her, however, given her adoption by a Jewish family whose members taught her to draw from inner reserves of strength and bravery. In time, she discovered how valuable those resources could be, when they helped carry her through the horrific events of September 11, 2001. In the documentary Dancing with Lives, filmmaker Kyoko Yokoma tells Mutsuyo's incredible story.
