Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Sir Joseph and Lady Webbing (Herbert Standing and Kate Lester) are the foster parents of Marie-Louise (Helene Chadwick). The couple are also in league with Verrinder, a German spy (Sidney Ainsworth). When their work against England is discovered, they commit suicide. Marie-Louise, who has been an unwitting part of their schemes, is allowed to go to the U.S. if she promises to keep everything a secret. In Washington, she runs into Davidge (Rockcliffe Fellows), a ship builder whom she met while performing in vaudeville. Marie-Louise, whom he calls Mamise, goes to work as his stenographer. Intrigue surrounds her, and Verrinder shows up, hoping to get her to help the Germans. She refuses to entertain this idea at first, but then realizes that if she pretends to go along with him and Jake, another spy (H.A. Morgan), she can bring down their plan. The two spies perish while trying to destroy one of Davidge's vessels, and Marie-Louise winds up with the handsome ship builder. Rupert Hughes' complicated story, which ran as a serial in Red Book magazine, did not make for great movie material.
