Synopsis by Rob Ferrier

Crusade in the Pacific is a video series that documents the fighting between the United States and Japan's Empire of the Rising Sun during and immediately after World War II. Each episode examines a crucial stage in a war that was contested bitterly and marked by unheard-of savagery. This episode, Crusade in the Pacific: Palau - The Fight for Bloody Nose Ridge, covers the U.S. attack on the islands that make up Palau, including, most notably, the island of Peleliu. Peleliu was the third major campaign for the hardened veterans of the 1st Marine Division. Much ink has been spilled on the necessity of attacking the island at all. The viciousness with which the Japanese defended it suggests that for them at least, that question was moot. Covered in some detail is the climax of the campaign, the fight for a small hill forever after known as Bloody Nose Ridge.
