Synopsis by Betsy Boyd

The educational video, Trials of Life: Courting, points out the funny similarities between the mating rituals of human beings and animals. Focusing on the behavior of animals in nature to draw this parallel, the program looks at the sometimes wacky choices little creatures make in pursuit of sexual partnership. Nightingales and whales sing songs, hamsters and moose deposit perfumed messages. Certain males skip the charm and cut right to a violent chase to secure a partner. Female birds select their males based on elaborate plumage and visual splendor while other animals are drawn to snappy dance steps. Material is most appropriate for teenagers and adults.
