Synopsis by Alice Day

Host James Burke delivers another episode in the lively, fast-paced series Connections 3. The premise is taking seemingly unrelated discoveries and events throughout history, and finding the ways they are ultimately connected. Burke is an entertaining and genial guide, and in Connections 3: What's in a Name, he shows how a breakfast leads to corn cob garbage, which is somehow utilized in "furfan," a substance used in bonding techniques. This in turn affects the invention of the tractor and the diesel engine, and eventually, the Smithsonian Institute.
