Synopsis by Alice Day

Students of all ages are intrigued by the Connections series of science programs, with their blend of historical and scientific facts. What sets the series apart is the manner in which host James Burke weaves the loose elements together into a logical and delightful whole. Connections 2: New Harmony examines how the little creatures made visible by the newly invented microscope were behind the ideas for Frankenstein. The novel, in its turn, had a role in the origins of Socialism. Burke also looks at celestial navigation, the tolerant attitude of Holland, Ming vases, Byzantine mosaics, and the microchip.
