Common Ground was the sixth of Thomas Meighan's eight starring films of 1916. Top billing, however, was bestowed upon Marie Doro, here cast as a feisty little factory girl known as the Kid. When he tries to expose corrupt politician Mordant (Theodore Roberts), young Judge Evans (Thomas Meighan) is framed on a trumped-up criminal charge. His career in ruins, Evans finds himself persona non grata in the better social circles, thanks in great part to the machinations of his ex-fiancée, Doris (Mary Mersch), who happens to be Mordant's daughter. Fortunately, the Kid, whom Evans had earlier set free when she came up before him in night court on a misdemeanor, is around to help the hero pick up the pieces of his shattered life.
