Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This video takes the viewer aboard a restored paddlewheel steamboat, as it travels to the sites of some of the important river battles of the Civil War. Among the places visited is Shiloh, TN, where one of the most brutal battles of the war was fought and more than 25,000 men died. Fort Donelson, on the Cumberland River, was the scene of an important Union victory, that demoralized the Confederacy. Vicksburg, situated on bluffs above the Mississippi River, was besieged for a year and finally captured by Ulysses S. Grant and his troops. At Chickamuga, in northwest Georgia, Confederate troops defeated Union forces in 1862. And at the strategic port of entry of Chattanooga, Confederate forces were finally defeated by Union troops.
