Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This video presents the art collection of Dr. Albert C. Barnes, who used his wealth from the pharmaceutical industry to buy works of French Impressionism. The business tycoon opened a museum in 1925 in Merion, PA, to show his vast collection. It contains works by well-known French Impressionists and other turn of the century artists including Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Rousseau, and Picasso. The Barnes collection owns 60 works by Matisse, 69 paintings of Cezanne, and 180 pieces by Renoir. The video tours the Barnes Foundation to view the works, while telling the personal story of the eccentric Dr. Barnes.
