Although Alice Calhoun's star was on the rise, this didn't exempt her from making subpar programmers like this drama. Edith Marsden (Calhoun) goes to live with her stern but loving New England grandfather, John Stanford (Charles Kent), but she has a secret -- she is married to a man (Eugene Acker) who is in jail for forgery. Duncan, the family butler (Robert Gaillard), advises Edith to hide her marriage because Stanford had disowned her mother after her own unfortunate marriage -- the realization that his granddaughter is repeating the pattern may kill him. Stanford wants to see Edith marry neighbor Richard Walling (Roland Bottomley), and neither he nor Walling can understand why she is cool to him. Meanwhile, Edith's brother, Frank (Jack McLean), is due home from a military hospital. Her husband, Don, has escaped from jail and shows up on Stanford's doorstep. Edith claims he is Frank, but Don gets drunk and tells Walling the truth. Edith is saved from an uncomfortable and dangerous situation when the police track down Don. In his attempt to escape from them, he falls down a quarry and is killed. The real Frank arrives home, and the newly widowed Edith is able to accept Walling's marriage proposal.
