In addition to writing and directing this film newcomer Kent Moran also plays the lead role of Jaden Miller, a mechanic from the Bronx whose life changes when he and his mother (S. Epatha Merkerson) are evicted from their home. Looking for a way to keep his family off the streets, Miller commits himself to boxing as a way to make money. Legendary trainer Duane Taylor (Michael Clarke Duncan) sees potential in his young boxer and it is the result of Taylor's grueling training regimen that Jaden wins his first big fight. Soon after, a cable network decides to create a reality show around Miller called "The Challenger," which follows him on his way to the Light-Heavyweight Title.
