Synopsis by Alice Day

Because of the important role of salmon in the food chain, these fish are protected from overfishing by state, federal, and international laws. They live in both fresh and salt water environments and provide food for large mammals, such as bears and whales, and also play a role in the diets of man and birds of prey. In Challenge of the Seas, Vol. 20: The Long Journey, host Ted Danson looks at the life cycle of salmon, who make an extraordinary journey in order to reproduce. This series is aimed at students in the intermediate grades and up through high school.
