Synopsis by Alice Day

At one time, sea otters were hunted almost to extinction for their prized fur pelts. After being placed under protection, their numbers have increased to the point where they are competing with humans for food sources. In Challenge of the Seas, Vol. 19: Otter Coast, host Ted Danson explores the delicate balance of ocean life and how declining populations of one species can impact several other species. The series of programs demonstrates the importance of achieving this balance, and offers close-up looks at the inhabitants of the seas.
