Synopsis by Tracie Cooper

This PBS production revolves around the 1999 International Quilt Festival. Held in Houston, TX, the event endeavored to find 100 of the most celebrated quilts of the 20th century. The winning quilts were chosen on a series of criteria and judged not only by their beauty, but also their overall contributions to the little-known art of quilt making. A Century of Quilts: America in Cloth features interviews with a variety of quilters, and offers an in-depth look at the way individual pieces of fabric are combined to tell a story which, more often than not, provides valuable insight into a particular person or family's heritage. Also included is a segment revolving around the various artistic nuances from quilt to quilt, and how certain styles became influential enough to gain a unique spot in quilting history.
