This 386-foot-long D.W. Griffith production was released by Biograph on the same reel as Griffith's 587-foot comedy Getting Even. The film was described by its studio as "a Contemner Child-Centered Comedy," which turned out to be a matter of opinion. A group of six youngsters spend a day at the beach. As the sun goes down, three of the kids begin heading home, but the rest get stuck in a sandpit on shore. The children try to extricate themselves from their dilemma, only to continually tumble back down on their little bottoms. The fortuitous arrival of a carrier pigeon enable the kiddies to alert their anxious parents to their plight. Like its companion feature, The Children's Friend was filmed on location at Edgewater, New Jersey.
