Sculptor Daniel Edwards is an artist who has gained a certain degree of fame for his off-kilter view of celebrity -- his works include a sculpture depicting Britney Spears giving birth, another of Paris Hilton undergoing an autopsy (with a cell phone still in her hand), and a nude from the waist up bust of Hillary Clinton. In Castro In Central Park, documentary filmmaker A.D. Calvo interviews Edwards in his studio as he works on a portrait in clay of Fidel Castro in the fall of 2006, as news reports predict the Cuban leader's imminent demise; Edwards intends to display the final work in New York City's Central Park, celebrating an urban legend that during a visit in New York Castro slept in the park and cooked a chicken over his campfire. Castro In New York has also been shown in an alternate version in which Edwards' sculpture of Castro is "deconstructed" by angry Cuban exiles in Miami, Florida. Castro In Central Park is Calvo's third documentary about Edwards, following Hillary's Bust and The Several Severed Heads of Daniel Edwards.
