According to this comedy-drama, Casey was upset because his niece was hurt when she fell off a tree. That's why he bungled the last strike in the final Mudville versus Frogtown game. Just as the pitcher was about to throw strike three, Casey saw the boy who was going to bring him news of the little girl, and it made him miss the ball. There was another attempt to bring the poem to the silver screen in 1927, which was even less faithful to the original source and starred Wallace Beery as Casey.
