Synopsis by Mark Deming

Six animated short subjects which are decidedly low on the "cute and fuzzy" factor are brought together in this collection. Cartoon Noir includes "Ape," in which an unhappy couple bicker over their unusual dinner entree; "Abductees," which tells the tale of several people kidnapped by visitors from other worlds; "Joy Street," where a despondent woman's life is saved by an unlikely benefactor; "The Story of the Cat and the Moon," which finds a feline beguiled by a satellite outside its reach; "Club of the Discarded," the tale of a group of unwanted mannequins who set up housekeeping on their own; and "Gentle Spirit," adapted from Dostoyevsky's short story, in which a woman is followed by a forbidding creature.
