Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Doris Durante stars as Carmela in this Italian melodrama. The film is set on an island penal colony near Sicily. Every three months, there is a changing of the guard at the island's military headquarters. Among the soldiers passing through this process is a callow lieutenant who seduces and betrays Carmela. Unhinged by this experience, the girl deludes herself into thinking that a newly-arrived officer (Pal Javor) is her former lover. Touched by her plight, the officer tries to help Carmela regain her sanity, and in the process falls in love with the girl. The photography, direction and supporting cast are above-average, but Carmela is Doris Durante's show all the way.
