Synopsis by Sally Barber
The Camera: Early Photography and Moving Pictures series tracks the development of photography as an art form. Volumes one through seven examine the evolution of the tool, while volumes eight through ten focus on the technological contributions leading to modern filmmaking. This volume features two segments. "Charles Pathe" offers a look at the French photographer, who, in 1910, introduced the newsreel to American moviegoers. The second segment, "Coast to Coast," recounts the unfolding of fiction movies and the birth of Hollywood. These documentary films recapture the dynamic energy surrounding the emerging medium.
